Recently, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) announced that the 2017 Mazda CX-5 had received a 2017 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the fifth consecutive year the vehicle has earned the accolade. It's noteworthy that every 2017 Mazda vehicle that the institute has tested that is equipped with both optional front crash prevention and specific headlights has earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating.
In a press release, Masashi Otsuka, VP of research and development, MNAO, stated, "Our Mazda Proactive Safety Philosophy guides us to develop cars and crossover SUVs that are nimble and direct-feeling to help a driver avoid incidents altogether. Our vehicles are designed and engineered to help protect the driver and passengers if a collision happens. To Mazda, safety is about empowering the driver as much as helping to protect him or her. We’re proud of the accomplishments of the CX-5 development team and appreciative of the IIHS’s recognition."
To earn a Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must receive a good rating in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests, an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good rating in headlight tests.
